One surfer has this to say about sharing the surfing experience: “There’s no better feeling than getting someone else excited about surfing.” The fact that there are more surfers in the sea these days does not bother me. It just means that I must up earlier in the morning. I grew up in Laguna Beach, and it never ceases to amaze me that there aren’t more Laguna Ticks, as the residents are known, in the sea and on the beach every day. Yes, there are many reasons to avoid the beach when it’s windy, pouring, too hot or too cold, or the sun is burning, but there are so many more reasons to be on the beach and in the water on such days that I can’t stay away. It’s like getting a natural high. You’re set for life if you have the ocean and the waves as your friends.

To enjoy surfing, you don’t have to be a pro surfer. Unfortunately, most surfing videos depict pros performing all of these dangerous and challenging feats on waves that most surfers cannot and will never ride. Most of us ordinary mortals can have a good time riding waves that are just a foot or three to five feet high on the wave face. The majority of the films deliver the wrong impression to the general public since the waves are terrifying and beyond the capabilities of 99 percent or more of the world’s surfers.

So, forget about the enormous waves and get to the beach to enjoy the small to moderate waves that God intended for us to enjoy. Use your boogieboard or a soft surfboard to go about. Go out and enjoy yourself, which you will. If you’re truly into surfing, you may progress to bigger waves with practise, a lot of time in the water, physical stamina, and the will to improve. The majority of us simply want to relax and enjoy ourselves while riding the gentle waves.

“A buddy asked whether I loved retracing my steps, going leisurely, riding mushy waves,” one of my pals recently told me. There was never and will never be a professional career for me. Surfing is my vocation, and my job is to share my passion for the sea, the water, and the spirit that I discover with others in some manner. It’s not about how much you “like” it. It’s just that I can’t see myself not doing it.” This is the emotion of love that surfing will instil in you. It will grow on you, and you will find it seductive.

The waves are a unique gift from God that fills the surfer with sentiments of joy, love, and excitement, as well as the sensations of being free, alive, and living your best life.
